Becoming a mother has not been the easiest journey for Alanis Morissette. “I always wanted to have three kids, and then I've had some challenges and some miscarriages so I just didn't think it was possible,” she tells @selfmagazine. Now, she's pregnant with her third. “I felt so much grief and fear. I chased and prayed for pregnancy and learned so much about my body and biochemistry and immunity and gynecology through the process. It was a torturous learning and loss-filled and persevering process,” Morissette says. I wholeheartedly agree, except I would add how much you learn about the statistical nightmare you are thrown into when you are over forty and treated like a fossil with decaying eggs. I had my kids at 42 and 44 and the process (after 3 miscarriages) of getting there was insanely degrading and soul wrenching. There are many doctors who treat you as a number and put you in a box based on your age and don’t consider your actual physical self. It is an entirely different form of negatively induced deprecation.
